Minimal crafting happened today. Both of jj’s socks are done up the the end of the heel flap, but nothing more as I would like either a circular needle or another package of the appropriate size for picking up along the flaps. Odd heel construction though. I’ll try to take some pictures tomorrow if I get some taken before I continue.

Jj spent the day with his dad today, while Mom and I took A to the art institute for a class, and then over to the Oriental Institute for his first visit there.  He loved the mummy class, and he seemed very interested in the displays.  I wonder how much he in actually internalizing the info, but he appears to be reading and studying everything.  I sent my dad a couple of pictures of A and me there.

Ionly got about 7,000 steps for the day, but it was cold and nasty out when we got home and I had worn “real” shoes so my feet were killing me by the time we got home so I was a lump the rest of the day.  Oh, A had us watch Independence Day 2, which I enjoyed immensely- probably more then it deserved.  Funny story about that.  A had bought the move a couple months ago, and Big J had only discovered how many movies A had bought until the bill came in.

Note -A and I started off the day watching (most of) one of the pirates of the Caribbean movies  not sure which one, except it was not the first one.  Also pretty cool, but I need to watch it again with close captioning as I could not hear half of the dialog (like that pixal movie last night)

argh, it’s only 10:30 and I am exhausted. Craftwise, all I did was make a small amount of progress on jj’s socks.

In life wise, I went to parent teacher meetings with big J and the boys. The whole kid lead meeting idea is odd. I got all my steps in (and more) for the third day in a row, Yea!  (Even including the driving day).  I got the fertility doc appt moved (to may) so that’s happened, and I watched an odd movie that I never knew existed called Pixel. Very odd.

Oh, and I got A and I signed up for a mummy thung at the Oriental Insitute for tomorrow so mom and I are taking him to a thing at the art institute and a thing at the Oriental Institute. We will see how that goes.

Here in Naperville, first full day here. I think we might go to the museum of science and industry today!

Today’s read/listen: I started to listen The Taken by Vicky Petersson. I was not the too taken (hehe – see my pun there?) with this, and already wanted to thwap the protagonist. I think I will switch to Chloe Neill’s The Veil.

Craftwise, I think I decided on us 2 needles ((2.75mm) mostly because I had a full sleeve of them) Checked & Square, Toe up (page 72-75) Sock Architecture by Lara Neel.

End of day report.
I got the toe (and a little bit of the foot) of the first sock done. It seems very big, JJ says he wants big, we will see when it is a bit longer.

We (me, JJ, and A) went to the MSI, went in U-505, and a couple of other things. Most astounding thing of the day – after a breakdown by A in the supermarket on the way home, and continued issues for the next bit, A called 911 on me! No emergency personal despatched but WTF. I thought it was a mistake but he affirmed it was on purpose. Now (after the kids are in bed) Big J face times me (from me downstairs) to ask if A stole the $20 in his pocket from my wallet or big J’a wallet. Omg! Neither one of us can figure out where else it could have come from, but we don’t know how much money we should have so can’t ascertain who’s it is. This is gonna be fun. It’s a good thing that we love the little brat.

Uhm….
Oh, I never did listen to any of whatever book I had decided on but started listening to Thief of Time by Terry Pratchett on the way there, and started Bob Brier’s History of AncientEgypt for A on the way back. The boys liked thief of time, and want to alternate between the two for driving for the next little bit.

Oh, and I desperately need gas my car!

Morning weight: didn’t do it, and probably won’t have a good weight until I get home again. Don’t want to confuse myself with a different scale.

Today’s read/browse: Sock Architecture by Lara Neel

Today’s listen: Finished Claudia Connor’s Worth the Risk, and Worth the Fall.

Comment about the two books. They are not that bad for the adults (though the total unconcern for money seems odd – it seems like they belong to a much higher income bracket then I would expect … anyway, let’s get off that tangent) ingrained gender role expectations, but the ways the kids were stereotyped into acceptable play activities irritated me to an unreasonable extent. I don’t know if I will bother looking up any more books from this author. I got them from the library and they were ok enough for a driving day, but I could have used something a bit more gripping.

I did not do much craft wise, cause I spent most of the day driving from Columbia to Chicago area, and then just hanging out with A, had dinner with Big J, JJ, and A. It was a very nice day. I consulted with JJ about his scarf (I thought it might have been too long, he said he liked the length, so I guess I won’t shorten it) and if he wanted his gloves or his socks next. He said socks. So I spent the rest of the evening winding the two skeins of yarn into balls. I have a couple of sets of needles with me, I’ll see if any of them make the texture I think I want. I am including a picture of the yarn’s label, I have two skeins of it. I should need much less then that. I am also including a picture of a book I got a while ago and have not spent the time browsing to fully appreciate it, but it seems really cool.

Today’s listen: I finished rereading A stone-kissed sea by Hunter, and am continuing listen to Claudia Connor’s Worth the Risk and Worth the Fall

This is written on the 22nd because yesterday became a bit of a lost day. I forgot to eat and got beyond ditzy, which was not helped by a sudden change of plans. PM picked up the dells, unfinished! Because I got a call from my brother when I was about 1/2 way done with the first dell, and he asked if I could come help with the kids because his wife’s father is doing poorly.  So my changed to a day of being totally ditzy.   Mike made the dinner I was planning on making, and it was wonderful!  I’ll try to share the recipe before I leave town.

Oh, and on a crafty note – so I got a bit huffy because over the fall, I had to make a second pair of gloves for BU because she said she had never recived the first ones I was sure I had already mailed to her.  Uhm, well, I found the first pair in a tote in one of my closets – they were hiding under a bunch of my sleep pants. Uhm, I guess I need to take back what I was thinking q couple of times.  Thankfully I never actually said any of it out loud.

Yesterday’s read/listen
I started to listen to Alexa Riley’s Everything for Her, but the library borrow period ended a couple of hours in, so I switched to Max Monroe Tapping the Billionaire (which, while very typical for the style -Everything for Her is also nothing spectacular – is turning it to be a fun read. I reread more of Elizabeth Hunter’s Stone-Kissed Sea but fell asleep before I finished it. This is the last of the Elemental world books that I can reread. She needs to write more of them. I browsed a bunch of random stuff from the library to listen to, (of which tapping the billionaire is on of) so I will probably listen to a bunch of those before I start on Hunter’s Cambio Springs books. I think that is my fav of her worlds, but that is the one she says was the most financially unrewarding so she is not going to continue writing books there which is sad. Oh, well. I have to admit that her Irin world is supposed to be rewarded financially and it is my least fav.
The weather continues to be unseasonably glorious. PM just asked if she could drop if the dells for hemming and since mike has left for work already, I said sure. So those are in the house. I promised them to be finished before the weekend. I also got the cable bill payment out to the mailbox and hope to leave for errands and a nice walk (hopefully with the weights, and I finally weighed them and they are one pound each wrist
-mike thinks I should see if I can buy 4 oz weights and work up slowly) before the predicted rain comes. I think I shall sew in one gathering line, Then leave for errands.

A couple of notes about the pleating and some thoughts (and questions) about hemds.

I have been mostly following the lady at https://katafalk.wordpress.com/2012/06/26/patternmaking-for-the-kampfrau-hemd-chemise/ directions for smocking, especially using her “uneven” running stitch for the gathering threads, but just read at http://germanrenaissance.net/pleatwork-guide-gather-method-creating-pleats/ that this lady thinks an even running stitch gives a more stable base to work on. Since I am doing two hemds right now, I will try the even stitch and see what I think of the final result.

Also, since the since the hemd I am currently sewing in the gathering threads is planed for an lower necked hemd, is the six lines of gathering thread sufficient? I am thinking it should be, but I feel almost as if I am cheating if I only do those six lines. I will have to think on this.
.
.
.
Ok, it’s the end of the day, and I am exhausted. I am a little excited by the amount of jogging I was able to do on my walk, I actually got one of the miles done in 15 min!! And I got the rest of the errands done – I was irrationally irritated by the congestion at all my stops , even after I figured out why (president ‘s day) – couldn’t all those people have stayed home and not got in my way? 🙂

I got eight lines of the stitching in on the Hemd that will be for ST, and dinner cooked, served, and cleaned up from (I even got a lunch for mike packed) and I got started using the plastic thingy to mark up a sample – I wanted to make a couple of samples. But the method is not perfect. I will have to see how this works.

Anyway, end of day, I am sitting here knitting a bit before I (hopefully) sleep like a rock. I did not sleep well last night, let’s hope I was active enough today to, as I said, sleep like a rock.image

The weather is so nice today, it would be a crime not to go for a walk, so mike and I are going for a drive! Well, a drive first to scout out locations for houses, then a small walk. I just the bottom of my foot last night(kinda grossly) so I only want to take a small walk, but like I said, it’s too nice not to walk. I was thinking of working out on the back porch after we get back.

I was so very uninspired yesterday I took out the two hemds I am working on and got close to finishing the hemming on them. I got hat finished today, and am working on sewing in the gathering threads for the one I have the dots marked for. Got those dots in at a Monday craft evening two weeks ago at SR’s place.

I also saw a cool idea that I am going to try at bobbing and weaving last weekend. Instead of using the card stock with holes punched into them at the 1 cm marks (I printed a 1 cm grid) use one of those pieces of plastic grid stuff used for craft stuff (I’ll include picture). This idea was from a lady called Adele.

Anyway, that’s the other part of the craft stuff I want to get done today, get all the dots marked in on the two hemds- and if I am very industryus, get all the gathering threads sewn in?

—note: I only finished the first 5 threads on one of the hemd. It takes awhile to sew those suckers in.

Oh, and the picture is of my one cm grid and a piece of the plastic grid stuff that I am going to try and use in place of the paper stuff. There is some stuff that has larger holes, but this is what I had laying around the house.
